I think a more appropriate term would be “involuntary jumpers”. I think if I were under the exact same circumstances, I would probably have done the same thing. Burning to death, and gasping for air can’t be a pleasant way to die.

I understand their point about particular photos portraying emotions in a situation well and why it could be best to show it, but i didn’t like the way they explained it; it was almost like they were thinking of what would make a great picture, or would they get awards for it…
What he says from 0:25 to 0:30 just makes me sick to hear. I agree with showing the picture for more reasons than not, but that reason makes me sick.
Coroner’s office cannot say they “Jumped”.. It would classify the cause of death a “suicide”, which in the case was not the intention.
As for those heroic fire fighters, I saw a documentary some years ago that they suffer from all kinds of diseases due to the poison in the rubble they inhaled during the rescue. They were not sufficiently protected while Juliani then said that it was all right. They were still not getting compensation for the health issues they suffered. So much for heroism and how they were treated by their government. But the pictures are nice.
People got angry about the photo when they should have been angry at the animals who attacked those buildings and forced those people out of the windows.
I feel so bad for these people. Having to make that kind of choice is unimaginable. But I think for a lot of those jumpers, it wasn’t really a choice at all. You have to remember that the temperatures in the buildings were hundreds, even a thousand degrees. With that kind of heat, jumping is the only way to escape such an unbearable situation.
@lpycb42 I agree I think people really did have to jump! In a since… I would have said the Lord Prayer as I fell… For its almost like an inescapable Suicide!? I pray God was with them all and had mercy!
@cameronmoj Uh…feet can’t do any work unless commanded by the brain. The brain commands the body to look an escape. An instinctive reaction is to cover your face if flames approach you. A choice is to take the leap to your death. Even instinctive reactions are commanded by the brain.

@1940Nazi God doesn’t avenge. I thought your God was love. Revenge is what caused these attacks in the first place. You are outraged at violence yet wish more violence upon others. It’s sad. Us humans. We will never stop killing each other because of that need to get even.
I never realized so many people were moved by that one specific picture…enough to make an entire film about. What’s weird is, I’ve kept that picture on my computer all these years as a reminder. Whenever I think my life sucks, all I have to do is look at that image and I quickly snap out of it. It’s the only 9/11 pic I think I ever saved.
some ppl get angry at the picture because it shows the last few moments of some1s life. It makes them upset bcause they may see it as the paper only trying to make money from it Or because it shows the choice that many ppl had to make on that day and they dont like the feel that they get from thinking that I personally agree with the paper editor Some fotos capture the horor but help us to remember the things the ppl had to go though This is just my opinion and i dont wish to offend any1

They did jump, that is the point. They chose to be free in the final moments of life, rather than to be forced to suffer and wait for whatever came next.
When you those innocent people jumping off of a 1500 foot skyscraper, it makes you want to play God and catch them all at once and place them to land safely. Makes you want to get feathers and places them in the bottom on the concrete, so they can bounce back to safety on a soft cushion-like platform. Little Angels,a ll of them. God Bless you all. To the families, and everything. God will avenge them all. :’(
They did not make a “choice” as to which way to die. When 1000 deg C flames are about to burn you, your feet instinctively take to the only place where there are no flames. In this case, the only such place was outside the windows. Your feet do the work, not your brain. That is why it is instinct and not choice. That is why they JUMPED – not “blown out” as that stupid woman from the coroner’s office put it. They were forced out, yes, but they still jumped, because they had to.
why brush the jumpers under the rug? i remember that day being woke up by my dad and sitting in front of the tv .i said,what are those little dots falling from the building? it took about 5 minutes of thinking before it hit me what was ging on.i have pecan trees over my house,whenever pecans fall and slam into the roof i always think about the jumpers
